What happened when four local residents with no farming experience regenerated a field with a vision to create a boutique vineyard here in Billericay. Read how the Four Non-Farmers created a multi award-winning vineyard

OUR STORY

Growing Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier varieties, our début Pinot Noir Rosé won two independent Silver medals in 2026. Our Cellar Door now features guest wines from our award-winning winery plus a showcase from other Essex vineyards

With stunning views across the south of Essex, our beautiful site plays host to community picnics, tranquil yoga sessions and more.  Or find us at other local  events for wine tastings or contact for private hire

Writing A New Chapter in Billericay’s History

Tucked away opposite the ancient Norsey Woods on Outwood Common Road where the Peasants’ Revolt once swept through the Essex countryside, Woodvalley Vineyards sits within a landscape shaped by centuries of history.

Perched on one of the highest vantage points in South Essex, our vineyard offers sweeping views across the Thames Estuary and to the Kent countryside beyond.  Here our vines form part of a new chapter — a boutique English vineyard where award-winning wine, nature and a passion for the land come together.

Woodvalley began with a simple ambition: to create something special from this little corner of Essex. What started with rows of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay has grown into a thriving vineyard, shaped as much by our respect for the landscape as by our passion for producing exceptional English wine.

Tended by the “Four Non-Farmers” as we call ourselves, we do things a little differently.

From regenerative growing and wildflower meadows to restored habitats and our ever-growing community of wildlife, everything at Woodvalley is approached with care, curiosity and more than a little determination.

The result is a boutique vineyard with its own personality — and a place we love sharing with others.

When the time came to turn our first harvest into wine, we chose the talented winemaking team at Nene Valley Winery in Northamptonshire with their state-of-the-art winery under Head Winemaker Salvatore Leone.

Working closely together, their team produced our début still wine — a delicate, pale English rosé that captured exactly what we had hoped to produce from our first vintage.

We knew we loved it, but perhaps weren't quite prepared for what happened next.

Discover Woodvalley

Woodvalley was never intended to be a vineyard admired only from a distance.

We love welcoming people through the gates — whether it's to collect a bottle of wine, join us for one of our vineyard events, or simply spend a little time enjoying the place we've created.

There is always something happening among the vines, and our story is only just beginning. Come and be part of it.

What we weren't quite prepared for was the incredible local response to our venture. The first few months have been a whirlwind of support, enthusiasm and new friendships, with people genuinely excited to see a vineyard taking root here in Billericay.

With our début wine winning two UK awards within its first eight weeks, we're incredibly proud to be putting Billericay firmly on the English wine map, and on the world wine map.

From the beginning, we wanted Woodvalley to be more than simply a place where grapes are grown and wine is made. We wanted to create somewhere we could share with our community — a place to discover local wine, enjoy the vineyard, meet friends and experience a little of what makes Woodvalley special.

The response so far has been beyond anything we imagined, and we're only just getting started.

Four friends. One shared vision. And now, a wonderful community sharing the journey with us.

Bringing the Landscape Back to Life

Our connection with the land extends far beyond the vines. Alongside the vineyard lies a historic pond, shown on maps dating back to the 19th century, which after a century of neglect had become almost completely lost beneath scrub and vegetation.  In April 2026, we began the painstaking task of bringing it back to life — restoring the water, creating new habitats and planting its banks and island to become a haven for wildlife.

Nature didn't take long to respond.

Within weeks, clear water, aquatic plants and an extraordinary arrival of dragonflies, water boatmen and other wildlife are transforming the pond into one of our favourite parts of Woodvalley.

At its heart now stands Victoria, our majestic Gleditsia ‘Sunburst’ — a rather spectacular reminder that growing wine here is only one part of nurturing this very special little landscape.

OUR WINES

Within weeks of its release, our début was awarded Silver at the Essex Wine Awards 2026, followed by a second Silver at the WineGB East Awards 2026 — making Woodvalley a double award-winning vineyard from our very first vintage.

Not a bad start for the Four Non-Farmers!

We always hoped to produce sparkling wine from our vineyard, so under Salvatore’s guidance we split the batch and are expecting our first English Sparkling in Spring 2027 where it is being made using traditional methods.
